Award-Winning Compact Sedan
The 2021 Hyundai Elantra offers an attractive and high-tech design that earned the vehicle the North American Car of the Year award from the North American Car, Utility and Truck of the Year automotive media jury. The redesigned compact sedan includes an upscale cabin, a plethora of driver-assistive safety features, and the legendary Hyundai 100,000 miles/10-year warranty.
Fuel-Efficient and Comfortable Performance
The Elantra comes standard with a 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder engine that delivers 147 horsepower and 132 lb-ft of torque along with a continuously variable automatic transmission and front-wheel drive. This powertrain gets an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 33/43 MPG on the SE trim and 31/41 MPG on the SEL trim. The difference comes from the standard idle stop-and-go feature on the SE trim.
Drivers looking for more pep under the hood can look forward to the N Line that comes with a 1.6-liter four-cylinder and a six-speed manual or seven-speed dual-clutch automatic that delivers an athletic 276 horsepower and 289 lb-ft of torque. This trim will be available as a 2022 Hyundai model in late 2021.
Buyers that want more fuel economy can choose the hybrid powertrain that includes a 1.6-liter four-cylinder and an electric motor. This model delivers 139 horsepower with an EPA-estimated fuel efficiency in the 50s.
Compact Sedan with Plenty of Space
The 2021 Elantra specifications defy the typical compact sedan interior space. With 99.4 cubic feet of interior passenger space, the Elantra is a comfortable sedan with seating for five adults. In the trunk, the 14.2 cubic feet of space offers enough room for six carry-on suitcases.
The SE and SEL models come standard with cloth seating, while the upgraded Limited has leather-trimmed seats that are heated in the front row. All seating styles include a driver’s seat with six-way adjustability and a front passenger seat with four-way adjustability. The Limited trim comes standard with a power tilt-and-slide sunroof that is also available on the SEL trim.
On the outside, the Elantra has standard LED daytime running lights with automatic headlight controls. The SE trim comes with 15-inch wheels, while the SEL trim includes standard 16-inch wheels. The Limited trim comes with 17-inch wheels.
Setting a Standard for Safety
Hyundai has been ahead of the game when it comes to standard safety features. The Elantra’s base trim, the SE, comes with several standard safety features. Buyers get Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist with Pedestrian Detection, Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist, Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, Lane Following Assist, Driver Attention Warning, High Beam Assist, and Safe Exit Warning on the base trim.
Buyers can add available Forward Collision-Avoidance with Pedestrian, Cyclist, and Junction-Turning Detection along with Smart Cruise Control with Stop & Go to their SEL trims. These safety features are standard on the Limited Trim. The top trim also comes with standard Parking Distance Warning - Reverse, Parking Collision-Avoiding Assist - Reverse, and Highway Drive Assist.
With so many standard driver-assist features, it should come as no surprise that the 2021 Elantra earned a Top Safety Pick award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and a five-star safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Impressive Infotainment Technology
The affordably priced 2021 Elantra also comes with plenty of infotainment technology. The SE and SEL trims come standard with an 8.0-inch infotainment touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Limited trim includes a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen with navigation and wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. All trims come with an HD Radio, a pair of USB ports, and Bluetooth connectivity with voice recognition technology.
A Bose premium audio system with eight speakers and a wireless charging system are available on the SEL and standard on the Limited trim. SiriusXM radio is also standard on the SEL and Limited trims.
The standard instrumentation cluster on the SE and SEL measures 4.2 inches, while a larger 10.25-inch cluster is available on the SEL and standard on the Limited. Hyundai includes the Bluelink Connected Care & Remote Package for three years on the SEL and Limited models and three years of the Guidance Package on the Limited trim.
